About Us

SWRTC History

The South West Rat Terrier Club was founded in October of 2023 by two friends who believed in promoting the fantastic all around nature of the Rat Terrier. As a new club we are working with our Breed's parent club, The Rat Terrier Club of America to gain AKC licensing and hope to accomplish that in 2024 with your support. 

  • Mission: To promote and support purebred AKC Registered Rat Terrier breeders, exhibitors, and companion owners by providing education, AKC Testing/Certification, and sanctioned AKC conformation events.
  • Focus: Our club focuses on supporting members and breeders that follow our both the AKC Code of Sportsmanship but also the SWRTC Code of  Ethical Conduct. 
  • Membership: While SWRTC focuses on supporting events in the above 5 state region, we welcome Rat Terrier Members from any location. For more information click below.

Not AT ALL! SWRTC is all inclusive! We welcome everyone! Companions, Performance, and Conformation Rat Terriers are all welcome here. As a club, we put emphasis on the fact that the Rat Terrier is a very versatile breed and can do just about anything! Rat Terriers should have titles on both ends of their names. 

Not yet! we are seeking new members, to build our group so that we can meet membership requirements and begin hosting events. 

We are a new club, as such we are limited in the events we can host due to the monetary and time commitments they require. However, we can do ATT, CGC, CFD, FitDog, and many other certifications. Our plan is to host two specialty events per year. 

Donate, Shop, and Volunteer. We are always looking for active members who love their Rat Terriers as much as we do.
